Tollywood drug case: ED searches for actors’ cellphones

ED has filed several petitions with the Excise Enforcement and Prohibition Courts in Hyderabad in connection with the Tollywood drug scandal, seeking to obtain the replicas of data from traffickers’ mobile phones and hard drives drugs and actors. The ED filed the plea in 12 FIRs in various courts.

In the past, ED had filed charges in 12 drug cases. ED had grilled actors Mass Maharaja Ravi Teja, Rakul Preet Singh, Rana Daggubati, Charmee Kaur, Navdeep, Mumaith Khan, Tanish, Nandu and Tarun and found no evidence against them. A special investigation team previously grilled the celebrities in 2017 and made them witnesses in the case.

Reports are coming in that ED – Directorate of Law Enforcement is also looking for the mobile phone of Hyderabad drug kingpin Calvin Mascarenhas and others. ED had checked the call records of several people, including Liger helmsman Puri Jagannadh.

A dozen cellphones were later seized by excise detectives and taken to court. ED requested the detailed explanation and response as soon as possible.

The High Court had ordered the Excise Department to hand over all case materials, call data records, documents, statements of defendants, witnesses and suspects, digital evidence including recorded videos, in all FIRs.
