Four men were arrested on September 19 for allegedly running a call center in Shahdara and deceiving foreign citizens under the guise of providing escort services. The defendants were identified as Ravi Sekhar, a Delhi University dropout with a history of cheating, Tarun, Krishnan and Satyam Tomar. The accused would run an obscene website.
Shahdara Special Staff and Cyber Station Police received information about an illegal call center operating near Margnaini Chowk which targeted Australian citizens in particular. When police raided the premises, they found the defendants were operating a pornographic website, and Ravi Sekhar’s bank details were found on the website, police said.
According to R Sathiyasundaram, DCP (Shahdara), “During sustained questioning, it was revealed that the call center was run by the accused for 3-4 months. The defendant created the website and put fake model profiles on it.
The police added that the victims who had paid under the pretext of escort services were still being identified, as they were foreigners.
Complaint was filed under IPC Sections 419 (deception by impersonation) 420 (deceit/dishonest inducement to deliver goods) 292 (sale etc. of obscene material) 34 (common intent) as well as provisions of the Act computer science. Nine hard drives were also seized.
