Thermaltake Popcorn Machine PC Case Coming Soon in a New Color

It’s a vending machine! It’s a popcorn machine! Is that a … gaming PC?

Thermaltake’s oddly endearing mini-ITX Tower 100 PC case has, to say the least, turned heads since its launch earlier this year. With its front and side tempered glass panels and compact, vertically oriented construction, Thermaltake’s eye-catching shell looks more like a showcase terrarium for your internal hardware components than anything to do with the computer. Reptiles and Hermit Crabs sold separately, of course.

The Tower 100 costs $ 119.99 and is sold in several different colors, including Snow, Black, Racing Green, and Turquoise. Recently however, Thermaltake announced a brand new color to add to the mix: Metallic Gold. The Shiny variant is expected to be available in Q4 2021, when you can build a close-up PC inside the chicest fake popcorn machine in the whole country.

I haven’t had a chance to build a PC with the Tower 100 yet, unfortunately, but those who did seem to find the case quite appealing, both in terms of performance and aesthetics. Tom’s Hardware reviewed it in April and, despite poor cable management and annoying construction quirks, rated the Tower 100 to be incredibly decent, at least when it comes to thermals.

This is particularly noteworthy given the limited spaces provided for the components. Granted, the Tower 100 is never going to be the coolest PC case in the world, but it’s interesting to know that temperatures can remain acceptable with creative placement and operation of the fans.

I’ve always been a huge fan of the weird and unique PC versions, and if I can grab a Tower 100 review unit in the near future, I’ll put the case to the test and see if the excellent quirk l outweighs the practical drawbacks.
