How to delete a drive in Windows 10 and 11

Long-time Windows users are usually familiar with the concept of disk partitions, but if not, you should know how to delete a disk on Windows 10 and 11. It’s pretty easy to get carried away with adding or partitioning disks for various purposes. Users who quickly run out of disk space or experience speed issues shouldn’t panic; additional or partitioned disks can easily be reallocated or reserved for more useful purposes.

Before deleting a disk partition, users should first take precautions to protect their data. The first step to preserving data is to ensure that it is backed up (preferably on a external hard drive). By storing data in multiple locations, users can easily recover data if an error occurs during the deletion or drive reassignment process.

Another precaution that can be taken is to defragment the disks (meaning that all fragmented files are consolidated). Not only will this reduce the risk of errors, but it will also help the computer run faster. Once these precautions are taken, you can safely delete a disk partition.
